As a leading Program Operator for the concrete industry, NRMCA recently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for Knife River. The EPD covers 479 mix designs produced at the Coffee Lake, Hillsboro, Linnton and Sundial plants in the Portland, OR, market area. A Product Category Rule (PCR) is the set of rules needed to develop environmental product declarations (EPD). It typically has a life span of five years. The inaugural PCR for concrete was published in 2013 and will expire soon. NRMCA, with key industry stakeholders, is updating the PCR for concrete.

NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently met with engineers and specifiers at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA. Kresge was the featured speaker at the monthly meeting of the Virginia Peninsula Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). His presentation, Pervious Concrete: Concrete Solutions for Stormwater Management, was well received, and included a very active question/answer session. Kresge’s participation was facilitated by Hessam Nabavi of the Virginia Ready Mixed Concrete Association (VRMCA). “Recent changes to the Virginia stormwater regulations have resulted in increased interest in pervious concrete for projects across the state,” says Kresge. “With more attention being paid, in general, to stormwater runoff and specifically to its impact on the Chesapeake Bay, pervious concrete provides a viable solution for developers.” For more information, contact Phil Kresge at pkresge@nrmca.org. Please join the North American Concrete Alliance (NACA) for a Webinar titled “NACA: 2018 Election Debrief” on Wednesday, November 7, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern time. This Webinar will serve as an overview of the available election results, what this means for NACA’s members and how this will impact the next Congress. Midterm elections are historically tumultuous and 2018 is promising to be especially so. With a pro-business majority on the line, the results of the election will be impactful to the ready mixed concrete industry. Click here to register and please share this correspondence within your company. For more information, contact NRMCA Executive Vice President for Government Affairs Andrew Tyrrell, at 321-229-1785 or atyrrell@nrmca.org. Congress will be out of session until after the midterm elections, wrapping up business and heading home to hit the campaign trail. When it returns, the Congressional forecast may look very different. Scheduled to be in session until October 26, the Senate adjourned on October 11 after Senate Democrats agreed to a deal with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to adjourn early in exchange for not prolonging consideration of 15 of President Trump’s judicial nominees. 2019 January 8 – 10, Orlando, FL January 15, Minneapolis January 15 – 17, Silver Spring, MD January 15 – 18, Tucson, AZ January 22 – 24, Kissimmee, FL February 5 – 6, Phoenix February 11 – 15, Orlando, FL February 19 – 22, Charlotte, NC February 27, Milwaukee March 19 – 21, Silver Spring, MD Learning & Development
NRMCA will teach a NEW curriculum for CCSP Module II, Understanding Your Concrete Contractor's Business, from December 4 - 6 in Silver Spring, MD (metro Washington DC). As sales staff prepares for 2019, it is the best time to immerse it with knowledge how customers' businesses work. Just because business is good, it does not give sales reps a free pass: they need to be able to tactically react in a more face-paced, demanding environment. Topics tie directly into what a sales rep should know that impacts business, including learning about contactors’ estimating methods, bidding, design, procurement, project planning and scheduling. Those that pass the optional exam receive credit toward CCSP Module II certification (please note that this is a required class for STEPS recognition).
