Bruce Christensen has been named vice president, regional business segment management for admixture systems in North America for NRMCA Associate member BASF. Mr. Christensen has 25 years of industry experience, including 19 years in the construction chemicals business. This experience includes a combination of regional and global responsibilities in technology, development, operations, marketing and communications based in various locations, including North America, Asia Pacific and Europe. NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Ken Justice recently conducted two separate contractor training seminars in Lawrence and Wichita, KS, respectively. The classes concentrated on concrete finishing techniques for pavements and were hosted by the Kansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (Jerry Younger, shown here standing at far right) and Ash Grove Cement. In addition to learning about concrete finishing, a session on concrete field testing was taught by Rusty Owings of NRMCA Producer member Geiger Ready Mix. After the class sessions, there were live demonstrations on a concrete placement and concrete testing. DeAngelo, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, NJ FMBA President Ed Donnelly, PFANJ, IAFF/AFL-CIO President Dominick Marino and NJFPPA President Rich Silvia.
At the Global Climate Action Summit this past September, leading cities and corporations ramped up their commitments to climate action. There, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) announced a new, aspirational LEED net zero certification program. By 2050, the total global floor area of all buildings is expected to double to more than 4,300 billion square feet. Pavement
A seminar on concrete overlays over asphalt roads and parking lots was provided for Aleut and several other consultants that are providing facility management for the Air Force Academy (AFA), located north of Colorado Springs, CO. Speakers includes NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don A. Clem, PE, and American Concrete Pavement Association CO/WY Paving Engineer Jamie Johnson, PE. Several of the engineers in attendance had attended the open house for the Thorncreek concrete overlay project earlier this spring. A potential pilot overlay project has been identified, pending further investigation and analysis. NRMCA Executive Vice President, Local Paving, Brian Killingsworth recently taught a class on concrete overlays over asphalt paving for parking lots at the 2018 Joint Engineers Conference in Helena, MT. The much anticipated annual conference, sponsored by the Montana Engineering Society among others, draws over 300 engineers for three days of training. The concrete overlay class was sponsored by the Concrete Division of the Montana Contractors Association (MCA). MCA also sponsored additional concrete related talks featuring Jim Powell, PE, executive director, ACPA Northwest Chapter, and Kim Basham, PE, principal, KB Engineering, LLC. Killingsworth and Powell also presented on concrete pavement design at a box lunch seminar for Morrison Maierle, Inc., of Helena, that was coordinated by Matt Wood, sustainable products and promotion manager of NRMCA Associate member Ash Grove Cement Company.
