The NRMCA Concrete Technologist Training and Certification (Short Course) held earlier this month in Silver Spring, MD, attracted 40 attendees (shown here). The course was well-rated by them; the following were the number of certifications awarded: • NRMCA Field Technician Grade II – 28 (32 passed the exam but some did not have the pre-requisite ACI Grade I certification) • NRMCA Field Technician Grade II – 28 (32 passed the exam but some did not have the pre-requisite ACI Grade I certification) • NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 2 – 28 • NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 3 – 17 Congratulations to all who attended and to those who received certifications. The following are recognized for achieving highest scores in the relevant exams: • Harvie Blevins, Jr. with Argos Ready Mix LLC for NRMCA Field Grade II (99%) • William Knauf, III with Preferred Materials for Concrete Technologist Level 2 (98%) • John Kern with Martin Marietta for Concrete Technologist Level 3 (92%) The next course will be the Regional Short Course; it's scheduled for February 11-14, 2019 in Orlando, FL. Pavement
A seminar on the design and construction of concrete flatwork, including concrete overlays over asphalt parking lots, was provided for the parks and public works departments of Lakewood, CO, reports NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem, who conducted the seminar. Lakewood is the fifth largest city in Colorado and is located on the west side of metropolitan Denver. Over 10 public works/parks professionals attended the presentation; several attendees had attended the Thorncreek Concrete Overlay Open House during the summer. NRMCA has provided technical support for the Lakewood parks department over the past year.
