The 2019 Fleet Benchmarking Survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year, based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance. This year’s form includes new question on mixer drum composition, idle time, and types of fuel being used. This annual survey is used to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures. Information gathered is published in a full report in Concrete InFocus magazine each autumn. A shorter Executive Summary of the survey is also made available to all. The deadline for submitting completed entries to Gary Mullings at gmullings@nrmca.org is today, Wednesday, May 1. Click here for more information and to download the survey entry form. The time-honored tradition of spring cleaning that occurs in the home and office must also take place in the CONCRETEPAC database. Please take our quick three question survey to help us stay organized and in compliance so we may better tend to the needs of our CONCRETEPAC supporters.

NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently presented at a lunch and learn at Wiley Wilson Architects/Engineers' Lynchburg, VA, office. Along with his NRMCA colleague, Executive Vice President, Promotion Strategy, Gregg Lewis, they discussed Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF) construction and concrete parking lots. The program was sponsored by the Virginia Ready Mixed Concrete Association (VRMCA) and was coordinated by VRMCA Promotion Director Hessam Nabavi. Following the presentation, Lewis fielded questions regarding ICF design specifics for a current Wiley Wilson project while Kresge provided additional information for those interested in concrete overlays of existing asphalt parking lots. With offices in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, Wiley Wilson provides architecture and consulting engineering services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. For more information, contact Phil Kresge at pkresge@nrmca.org. NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem recently joined a host of industry colleagues in Denver at the annual Concrete Day at the Capitol. This year’s event was the first time that Governor Jared Polis was able to address the group; he proclaimed the tenth annual event "Concrete Day at the Capitol." Clem said the event was a resounding success, with more than 500 legislators and staffers on hand to enjoy a barbeque lunch grilled on site, providing concrete industry representatives the opportunity to visit with lawmakers regarding the importance of the concrete industry to the state’s economy. "The weather for the tenth annual event was absolutely perfect," said Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association Executive Director Todd Ohlheiser. "We were very pleased with our member turnout, which ensured an informative experience for lawmakers and we were honored that Governor Polis (shown here being introduced by Angela Folkestad of the American Concrete Pavement Association's Colorado-Wyoming Chapter) took the time to speak at the event, given his busy schedule as the legislature approaches the end of the session next week.” For more information, contact Don Clem at dclem@nrmca.org or Todd Ohlheiser at Todd@coloradocaa.org. Government Affairs
Yesterday, President Trump hosted the Congressional Democratic leadership – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer – at the White House for a discussion about infrastructure. (Click here to read the letter from Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader Schumer.) Among the priorities the Democratic leadership expressed were real revenue and resiliency. In the meeting, President Trump and Congressional Democratic leadership agreed in principle to a $2 trillion infrastructure bill, double what the president campaigned on and a half billion more than his $1.5 trillion proposal int he 2018 State of the Union address. On Wedneday, May 1, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is holding a hearing for Members of Congress to present their priorities for the infrastructure bill. The committee is also accepting input from stakeholders. NRMCA will be submitting input reflecting the industry’s legislative priorities. It is widely expected that the committee will formulate an infrastructure package, then consider and likely pass the bill to the House floor. Whether it is heard and what kind of reception it receives in the Senate remains to be seen. However, in light of this agreement the prospects for this legislation may have improved. Regardless, this process provides a forum for legislative priorities to be later included in surface reauthorization legislation in 2020.
