Association & Industry News

NRMCA President Michael Philipps has delivered a letter to the White House thanking President Trump for his commitment to the industry. As a veteran of the construction industry with 33 years of experience, Philipps has a deep understanding of how the health of the American economy relies in part on the protection of the 600,000 jobs and livelihoods of the men and women who work for NRMCA member companies.

“Concrete is undoubtedly critical to rebuilding and strengthening our nation’s infrastructure, and we stand committed to building a more resilient, safer country," Phillips wrote. "At NRMCA, this goal is the driving force behind our advocacy work. Our national grassroots coalition, Build With Strength, consists of civic organizations, fire service professionals, architects, engineers and industry experts dedicated to enacting safer and more cost-effective building standards. Strengthening local and national building codes and improving American infrastructure is among our organization’s top priorities."

Does your facility need to report to the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Program? Have you run the calculations to determine if your facility does? Do you know what the requirements are and/or how to report if necessary? Now’s the time to obtain answers to all of these questions. Remember, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) TRI Program “tracks the management of more than 650 toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to human health and the environment.“ Specifically, “U.S. facilities in certain industry sectors must report annually how much of each chemical is released to the environment and/or managed through recycling, energy recovery and treatment.” This information is then submitted annually to EPA and compiled in the TRI.

Facilities that handle toxic chemicals, including ready mixed concrete plants, are required to calculate the quantities that were handled and if any quantity is over an allowable threshold, that chemical and amount need to be reported under the program. Should a facility need to report, the reporting deadline is July 1, 2019.

Click here for more on the program, listed chemicals, potential for reporting and when/how to report. You may also contact Gary Mullings at gmullings@nrmca.org or Kevin Walgenbach at kwalgenbach@nrmca.org.
