Concrete buildings, pavements and structures are silently absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It appears to such a degree that the built environment represents one of the world’s largest storehouses of carbon. Yet this information is currently excluded from global, national, and regional greenhouse gas accounting methods. This is the main message from peer-reviewed scientific studies summarized in a paper released recently by researchers at CalPortland Company. News of the paper's release was covered by Yahoo! Finance among other outlets, along with CalPortland itself.
“It is time to further examine the value of concrete in the built environment as a significant carbon sink,” said Allen Hamblen, CalPortland president/CEO. “To do so accurately, we must specifically look at the net effects of CO2 sequestration in concrete and evaluate all structures over their lifetime within a circular economy.” Click here for the Yahoo! Finance news release and here for CalPortland's release on its website. For more information, contact William Larson at wlarson@calportland.com.

The information reporting deadline was May 31, 2019, for demographics and then September 30, 2019, for the detailed pay and hours data. The pay/hours data due in September is required to cover both 2017 and 2018. The EEOC anticipates that employers can start reporting this information starting July 15.
