Concrete buildings, pavements and structures are silently absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It appears to such a degree that the built environment represents one of the world’s largest storehouses of carbon. Yet this information is currently excluded from global, national, and regional greenhouse gas accounting methods. This is the main message from peer-reviewed scientific studies summarized in a paper released recently by researchers at CalPortland Company. News of the paper's release was covered by Yahoo! Finance among other outlets, along with CalPortland itself.

“It is time to further examine the value of concrete in the built environment as a significant carbon sink,” said Allen Hamblen, CalPortland president/CEO. “To do so accurately, we must specifically look at the net effects of CO2 sequestration in concrete and evaluate all structures over their lifetime within a circular economy.”

Late last month, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced that employers with 100 or more employees will be required to report data on all their employees, detailed by pay, hours, race, sex and ethnicity. The information reporting deadline was May 31, 2019, for demographics and then September 30, 2019, for the detailed pay and hours data. The pay/hours data due in September is required to cover both 2017 and 2018. The EEOC anticipates that employers can start reporting this information starting July 15.

Learning & Development
NRMCA has responded to members’ request to move the Certified Concrete Sales Professional (CCSP) series-of-four workshops to a central U.S. location. As a result, each of the four classes will now be held in Dallas at the same hotel, just three miles from Love Field and 20 minutes from Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport. Additionally, a class fee discount is extended for those who register for all four classes and to companies that send three or more people to one class.
Thanks to member diligence, 188 Producer members have completed the truck mixer driver survey this year, now representing 33% of the estimated 75,000 mixer drivers calculated from NRMCA's Annual Fleet Benchmarking & Costs Survey.
