The estimated ready mixed concrete produced in April 2019 is 32 million cubic yards, 6% higher than that in April 2018. The estimated production in the U.S. for 2019 through April is 103.4 million cubic yards, 3.5% higher than that during the same period in 2018. Ready mixed concrete production is estimated from cement shipments reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. More detail is available to NRMCA members at this link.

CIPs are used by concrete producers as educational material to distribute to users, contractors and other interested parties. They are written in a “What? Why? How?” format. CIPs are available in sets of individual topics, collated sets and special series sets. This past spring, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced that employers with 100 or more employees will be required to report data on all their employees, detailed by pay, hours, race, sex and ethnicity. The information reporting deadline was May 31, 2019 for demographics and then September 30, 2019 for the detailed pay and hours data. The pay/hours data due in September is required to cover both 2017 and 2018. The EEOC has announced that employers can start reporting this information as of this past Monday, July 15. This month, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) adopted the AIA Resolution for Urgent and Sustained Climate Action. The historic resolution passed 4,860 to 312 at the 2019 AIA National Convention in Las Vegas. The intent is to provide a framework for the AIA to prioritize and support urgent climate action to exponentially accelerate the “decarbonization” of buildings, the building sector and the built environment.

NRMCA Associate member CarbonCure Technologies was recently profiled in a news article from the Reuters news service titled U.S. Lawmakers Take a Concrete Step to Battle Emissions. The article includes news that Hawaii's Department of Transportation will use carbon-injected concrete on concrete products; a government official states this allows for less cement to be used in mixes. In the U.S., Austin, TX, officials are encouraging pilot programs to use the greener concrete. Read more. NRMCA’s Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. NRMCA member companies producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada is eligible to enter. Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits. Winning entrants will be honored at the Awards Luncheon at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks this October in Washington, DC. Winners will also be featured in a 2019 edition of NRMCA’s Concrete InFocus magazine and Concrete Products magazine. The mission of the Developing Industry’s Leaders (DIL) program is to create a unique setting for tomorrow’s leaders to interact, both professionally and socially, with more established professionals while providing responsible leadership and transferable knowledge about the ready mixed concrete industry over a long period. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the program boasts just under 200 alumni.
