Association & Industry News
This week, NRMCA convened its new Small Producer Council (SPC) to shape the future of how the Association supports its widest range of members. The SPC was formed to ensure that these members have an opportunity to lead a conversation on their unique needs and consult their peers on issues that mean the most for their businesses. James Schelzi of Woburn Redi Mix Concrete in Massachusetts will act as representative for this council. SPC's inaugural gathering already made progress toward distributing information to NRMCA members. Future council meetings will cover a wide range of topics, including networking, education, content distribution and business intelligence. The desired result is to not only grow this vital segment of the Association membership base, but, more importantly, finish 2021 with a refreshed and targeted plan to best support our small business partners. The NRMCA Annual Concrete Technologist Training and Certification program (Short Course) will be offered online beginning February 19. Interested persons are encouraged to register now since the number of available slots is limited. The exams are scheduled for March 1. The Technical Short Course provides a fundamental understanding of concrete, aggregates and concrete making materials; requirements in industry codes and standards; and proportioning concrete mixtures. Attendees have the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized NRMCA certifications: NRMCA Level 2 and 3 Concrete Technologist certification. The course is intended for quality, sales and other personnel with a technical role with ready mixed concrete companies and suppliers to the industry. New hires in these roles can also benefit from attending. A significant amount of technical content is covered that requires the attendees to have a basic concrete technology background and at least a high-school level of math. The course content will be available to registrants through the NRMCA learning site with login access. Some material will be mailed and precourse study content will be made available to registrants before the course. The course will be self-directed for attendees with content posted online and periodic live sessions for review and discussion. Click here for more Information and a registration link. The next two Certified Concrete Sales Professional (CCSP) classes are a great way for your sales reps to ramp up for 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will be taught online. The schedule is as follows: • Module 3: RMC Business Knowledge, February 2-5 - Content is an overview of critical business concepts used in the RMC business, focusing on RMC job cost analysis. Assure your reps know the factors to price a job profitably without solely relying on a plug-and-chug software program. • Module 4: Professional Sales Skills and Promotion, March 22-26 - Mid-level staff learn to apply consultative, team-based cross-selling methods in ready mixed concrete situations. Each class stands alone so it does NOT have to be taken consecutively or collectively. Additionally, these are the required courses in the STEPS® Sales and Promotion certification program where those in the field earn the industry's most prestigious capstone certification, the CCPf.
