The 2022 Fleet Benchmarking Survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year, based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance. This year’s form includes new questions on mixer drum composition, idle time and types of fuel being used. The survey is used to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures; information gathered is published in a full report in Concrete InFocus magazine each autumn. A shorter Executive Summary of the survey is also made available to all. The deadline to e-mail entries to fleetbenchmark@nrmca.org is this Friday, April 22. Click here for more information and to download the entry form. The staff contact is Gary Mullings at gmullings@nrmca.org. NRMCA is looking for individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. NRMCA’s Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. NRMCA member companies producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada are eligible to enter. Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits. Winning entrants will be honored at the Awards Ceremony at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks this October in Aurora, CO. Winners will also be featured in a 2022 edition of NRMCA’s Concrete InFocus magazine and Concrete Products magazine. Entries and photos must be e-mailed to gmullings@nrmca.org by Friday, July 22. Registration is now open for Learning Session 2 of Concrete Innovations, sponsored by NRMCA, Build With Strength and Pave Ahead:
Concrete Innovations Learning Session 2 - Wednesday, May 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. NRMCA has launched a course titled Life Cycle Assessment of Concrete Structures for Hanley Wood University. When looking at the environmental impacts of a building, it is important to assess every stage of the environmental life cycle, from material extraction and product manufacturing to building operations and maintenance through to end-of-life. Concrete offers many environmental attributes that help reduce the overall environmental life cycle impacts of a building. This session explores how life cycle assessment can be used to measure and lower the environmental impacts of buildings. Click here to view the course. NRMCA Pave Ahead engineer Amanda Hult recently presented on concrete overlays as part of the Day of Concrete at Florida Atlantic University that was hosted by Florida Concrete & Products Association. Designers, students, faculty and industry partners (seen here) participated in a day of presentations on concrete designs, products and other related topics. Ms. Hult provided the attendees with the basic design information on bonded and unbonded concrete overlays. “While no one in the room raised their hands that they had heard of concrete overlays, they are not a new concept," Hult said. "As an industry, we are working to educate owners, developers and contractors that there is a sustainable option for rehabilitating existing pavements and that is with concrete overlays.” For more information, contact Amanda Hult at ahult@nrmca.org. Our industry’s rising stars closed a very busy year with a recent event at the Middle Tennessee State University School of Concrete and Construction Management in Murfreesboro. Not only did they network, but they also heard cutting edge lectures from graduate school faculty and toured the school’s new $40 million building slated to open in September. The 2022-2023 Developing Industry applications are due Friday, April 29. Click here to learn more and download the application. Learning & Development
