NRMCA is looking for individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. While serving on the Board requires both commitment and energy, it is a rewarding opportunity to give back to the industry. NRMCA represents a broad range of ready mixed concrete companies across the U.S. and our success is a direct result of the skills and expertise of our professional staff working in conjunction with Board members. Director nominees must be committed to promoting NRMCA programs and working in the best interest of our membership and the industry at large. The Board provides strategic direction, fiduciary oversight and governance of the organization’s operations.
Buildings
Build With Strength, an initiative led by NRMCA, is launching the second year of the Concrete Academy. Across the world, concrete is one of the most popular building materials due to its affordability, versatility and durability. In addition, concrete is often used because of its thermal mass, or ability to store heat, which can reduce energy use in buildings. The Concrete Academy, presented by BNP Media (publishers of ENR and Architectural Record) offers a total of 8 continuing education credits with courses ranging from the Business Case for Building with Concrete to The Top 10 Ways to Reduce Concrete’s Carbon Footprint. Click here to view the courses. For more information, contact Lionel Lemay at llemay@nrmca.org or 847-922-7995.
Pavement
NRMCA, Build With Strength, Pave Ahead Advocate for Functional Resilience in Infrastructure Projects
Designing infrastructure to achieve functional resilience - the ability to perform a specified set of initial functions after an extreme event - is crucial to obtaining true value for our country’s investment. A recent article in ASPIRE – The Concrete Bridge Magazine by NRMCA Senior Vice President, Structures and Codes, Scott Campbell, and Brian Killingsworth, executive vice president of local paving, defines functional resilience, its importance to infrastructure design and how a lack of full consideration of resilience led to a loss of functionality for an extended time during a recent winter storm event. Build With Strength is a coalition led by NRMCA that promotes concrete building systems through communications, project promotion, education and advocacy. To learn more, contact Scott Campbell at scampbell@nrmca.org or 502-552-5034. For more information about Pave Ahead, contact Brian Killingsworth at bkillingsworth@nrmca.org. Together with Jim Randolph of the Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association, NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Luke McHugh presented a webinar titled Concrete Pavement Basics on April 21 for IDOT's Bureau of Local Roads and Streets. More than 400 engineering and construction professionals attended the webinar which focused on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete and how they contribute to the design and service life of a concrete pavement. For more information, contact Luke McHugh at 267-212-4700 or by e-mail, lmchugh@nrmca.org.
