Ken Crank, director of concrete promotions of the Pennsylvania Aggregates & Concrete Association (PACA), announced this week that PACA has released a new case study that highlights the use of ICF construction on a project in Lebanon County (seen here). The two-page document includes links to the developer and architect on the project along with links to more information on ICFs and a video showcasing the project. The owner, Byler Holdings, decided on ICFs for the apartment buildings after being introduced to the concept by Crank and his frequent promotion partner, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Doug O'Neill. After evaluating the costs, timing, ease of use and ultimate quality of the final product, the decision was easy, according to Wilbur McMichael, Byler Holdings' director of construction. You can read more case studies at PACA’s Specify Concrete website. For more information on this project or to discuss developing a case study of your own, contact Doug O’Neill at doneill@nrmca.org.

NRMCA will host five face-to-face classes beginning this fall; they focus on giving participants immediate skills to help juggle all their balls within compliance parameters as well as learn efficiency processes and organizational methods.
These classes earn NRMCA's STEPS "Operations and Production" Track certification, CCPf. STEPS is the ready mixed concrete’s industry most prestigious employee professional development program, supporting career development and job retention/succession planning. More information for each of the classes can be accessed from NRMCA's main calendar webpage. You may also contact Jessica Walgenbach at jwalgenbach@nrmca.org or 703-706-4852. NRMCA recently verified a system-level Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program for NRMCA Producer member Smokey Point Concrete in Arlington, WA. The EPD was developed in consultation with and based on a software tool by Athena Sustainable Materials Institute. The software tool integrates LCA impacts within batch operating software to generate EPDs when desired. The software, underlying life cycle data for each plant and EPD were reviewed and verified by Sustainable Solutions Corporation, a verifier in NRMCA’s EPD program. Public access to the EPD is available on the NRMCA EPD webpage and is listed as NRMCA EPD: 20060 Smokey Point Concrete. This EPD reports the impacts for ready mixed concrete produced at Smokey Point Concrete in Arlington, WA. For more information, contact Matthew Lemay at mlemay@nrmca.org. Buildings
