The estimated ready mixed concrete produced in May 2022 is 35.7 million cubic yards, 6.0% higher than that in May 2021. The estimated production in the U.S. through May is 153 million cubic yards, approximately 3.2% higher than that during the same period in 2021. The early bird registration deadline for NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks 2022 is today, Wednesday, August 10. Register today to save $125 off the regular registration fees. Registration fees, except for a-la-carte registrations, include access to NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks, registration materials, attendance at education sessions and social functions. The CONCRETEPAC and RMC Research & Education Foundation Fundraiser and some spouse/guest activities require a separate registration form and fee. Exhibit space is still available for this year’s event; reserve your space in the expo hall by completing the Exhibitor Application and returning it to NRMCA along with the required payment. The RMC Research & Education Foundation has opened registration for this year’s Walk for Wellness. It will again take place as part of NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks 2022 and in conjunction with NRMCA’s National Mixer Driver Championship on Saturday, October 1, at 8:30 a.m. (check in starts at 8 a.m.). Participants may pre-register from the Walk’s informational page. The registration fee is $25 and is tax deductible as a donation to the Foundation. We had a record number of participants last year and expect to break that record this year! Sponsorships are also available for this event; they're a terrific way to demonstrate your company’s support for the Foundation and the industry. The NRMCA Annual Concrete Technologist Training and Certification program (Short Course) is scheduled for November 7 - 11 at a location near BWI airport in Maryland. Interested persons are encouraged to register now since the number of available slots will be limited. Hotel location is being finalized and registrants will be notified when available. The Technical Short Course provides a fundamental understanding of concrete, aggregates and concrete making materials, requirements in industry codes and standards, and proportioning concrete mixtures. Attendees have the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized NRMCA certifications: NRMCA Levels 2 and 3 Concrete Technologist certification. The Short Course is intended for quality, sales and other personnel with a technical role with ready mixed concrete companies and suppliers to the industry. New hires in these roles can also benefit from attending. A significant amount of technical content is covered that requires the attendees to have a basic concrete technology background and at least a high-school level of math. This Friday, August 12, is the deadline for drivers to register to compete in the 16th National Mixer Driver Championship being held on Saturday, October 1, at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Aurora, CO, in conjuction with NRMCA's ConcreteWorks 2022. To register your drivers please use the online driver registration webpage and choosing the Driver Attendee registration type; please also review the Driver Rules & Procedures and Driver Schedule of Events. *Note that new this year, drivers must register for the event online - NRMCA no longer offers the fax/email-back option. Also, as in the past, driver supervisors will need to register separately and NOT as driver guests; they should use the Driver Supervisor registration type. Finally, in helping to ensure a successful event this year, we encourage everyone to please review this year’s sponsorship opportunities for this year's championship. This week, August 15 - 21, is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Safe + Sound Week. This program encourages creation and use of workplace safety and health programs. As an official supporter of OSHA’s Safe + Sound Program, NRMCA joins OSHA in highlighting the importance of workplace safety through NRMCA’s Think First safety program. Both programs aim to increase the level of participation among all levels of workplace management and employees to improve workplace safety. Safe + Sound also provides resources to help employers create and bolster their own safety programs, and connect with other like-minded organizations. Habitat for Humanity, Butte County, CA, and the Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony welcoming new homeowners to Paradise, reports NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche. NRMCA is extremely proud to celebrate the first three non-combustible Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) Habitat for Humanity International homes opened in the community. Thanks to the generous donations and support of the ready mixed concrete industry, these homes represent the NRMCA’s ongoing efforts to build safe, energy efficient and resilient communities across America.
