Association & Industry News
At the end of August Jon Hansen, NRMCA senior vice president, local paving, will retire and begin his next phase of life. Jon joined NRMCA as a national resource director in July 2006. Before that he was the director of marketing for the Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete/Iowa Concrete Paving Association promotion partnership. A native of northwest Iowa, he has spent his entire life in the construction industry as a construction company owner, manager and in market development for the industry. Over the last 16 years, Jon has been instrumental in creating opportunities for NRMCA members and boosting bottom lines. But beyond the numbers, Jon has instituted programs and developed practical guides that will last for years to come.

Earlier this month, a group of NRMCA staff members traveled to just outside Baltimore to help construct a Habitat for Humanity house in the community of Halethorpe. The house was being built using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs), the latest ICF residence (seen here) resulting from a nationwide partnership among NRMCA, Build With Strength and a host of other construction organizations and volunteers. Led by Executive Vice President, Strategy, Gregg Lewis and Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Gordon, about a dozen NRMCA employees (seen here) lent a willing hand under the guidance of ICF supplier BuildBlock COO Micah Garrett to build a safe, affordable home for a family selected by local Habitat for Humanity officials. Maryland-based NRMCA Producer member Chaney Enterprises donated the concrete for the project, adding to a growing list of Association companies to contribute to such a worthy cause. “We are very pleased to be associated with Habitat for Humanity and look forward to growing our partnership for the remainder of this year and 2023,” said both Lewis and Gordon at the site. “ICF building blocks and ready mixed concrete are the perfect solution to help provide durable and economical residential housing for the many people across the United States who need it. NRMCA members and staff looking forward to many more of these homes being built for years to come.” Click here for an overview of Build With Strength’s involvement with Habitat for Humanity.
