NRMCA recently verified a system-level Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program for NRMCA Producer member Holliday Rock in California. The EPD reports the impacts for ready mixed concrete from 12 plants in Southern California, the largest number of plants in a single verification in NRMCA’s EPD program since 2017. The EPD was developed in consultation with and based on a software tool by Athena Sustainable Materials Institute. The software tool integrates LCA impacts within batch operating software to generate EPDs when desired. The software, underlying life cycle data for each plant and EPD were reviewed and verified by Ecoform, a verifier in NRMCA’s EPD program. Public access to the EPD is available on the NRMCA EPD webpage and is listed as NRMCA EPD: 20068 Holliday Rock. For more information, contact Matthew Lemay at mlemay@nrmca.org. Engineering
The NRMCA Regional Concrete Technologist Training and Certification Program (Short Course) has been scheduled for February 6-10, 2023, at the offices of the Florida Concrete and Products Association In Orlando. Interested persons are encouraged to register now! The number of available slots is limited due to space limitations. The Technical Short Course provides a fundamental understanding of concrete, aggregates and concrete-making materials; requirements in industry codes and standards, and proportioning concrete mixtures. Attendees have the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized NRMCA certifications: NRMCA Levels 2 and 3 Concrete Technologist Certification. The Short Course is intended for quality, sales and other personnel with a technical role with ready mixed concrete companies and suppliers to the industry. New hires in these roles can also benefit from attending. A significant amount of technical content is covered that requires the attendees to have a basic concrete technology background and at least a high-school level of math. To prepare, registrants will be provided with pre-course study content about three weeks before the course. Click here for more information and a link to register. Contact Jessica Walgenbach if you need assistance with registering for the course. The Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering of the University of Toronto will offer an industry workshop and graduate level course titled Chemistry of Cements and Concrete in May 2023.
