Engineering
NRMCA has announced the winners of its 2023 Excellence in Quality Awards. Winning producers demonstrated that they followed and exceeded quality management principles over a broad range of activities from commitment to quality, materials management, managing production facilities and product quality control while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. Association members below will be honored on September 30 during the awards ceremony at NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks in Nashville, TN.
NRMCA, in conjunction with the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association, is presenting the one-day course, Improving Concrete Quality, intended for concrete producers, ingredient material suppliers, engineers and testing labs on Tuesday, December 12, in Charlotte, NC. Improved concrete quality can benefit all stakeholders in a concrete construction project. This course will include the following:
NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted teamed up with Tim Martin, senior vice president of engineering services for the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA), and Alex Martinez, Las Vegas area manager for RMA Group, Inc., on August 22 to present the webinar Understanding and Resolving Concrete Pavement Construction Defects as part of the Southwest Concrete Pavement Association (SWCPA) 2023 Concrete Pavement Workshop Series. The webinar attracted 184 engineers, contractors, suppliers and government agencies from across the country who discussed how defects originating from poor subbase, changing weather conditions, inconsistent materials, flawed designs and sub-par workmanship could slow projects down and increase costs. More importantly, the workshop explored effective, inexpensive, sustainable and best-practice solutions to these issues. The presentation's content, divided among the three subject matter experts, was tailored so that attendees could gain valuable insights into common construction-related issues affecting concrete pavements and practical methods to address them. Halsted said a Q/A session after the presentation went well, passing the scheduled ending time as participants were eager to learn more and share their experiences. He also introduced attendees to NRMCA’s Pave Ahead program and mentioned how they could benefit from the education and design assistance it offers. Pavement
On a beautiful, hot summer Colorado day, around 60 attendees from local cities and counties, engineers and contractors as well as concrete industry representatives observed the concrete overlay placement at the East Economy Parking Lot, located at the southeast corner of Denver International Airport, reports NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem. The open house was co-sponsored by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) Colorado/Wyoming Chapter, IHC Scott and NRMCA. Guests were treated to ringside seats to view the paving operation while enjoying a hosted lunch. Alec Wieczorek, DEN AIM Development-Infrastructure; Anthony Wiarda and Joe Satriana of IHC Scott; Angela Folkestad and Sarah Dalton of the local ACPA chapter and Don Clem mingled among attendees (shown here, getting a close look at the concrete overlay construction), answering questions regarding the project and the concrete overlay process. The 21-acre project is expected to be completed in time for the fall travel season. For more information, contact Don Clem at dclem@nrmca.org. 2024 March 18 - 21, Tampa, FL March 26 - 28, Denver October 10 - 14, Aurora, CO Calendar
