NRMCA’s 2024 Annual Convention will take place March 18 - 21 at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street in Tampa, FL. Registration is now open; please register now to take advantage of the early bird pricing discount and save $130 off the regular registration fees. NRMCA has contracted a block of rooms at the hotel at a discounted rate of $349/night plus applicable taxes. We encourage you to make your hotel reservations online. The American Coal Ash Association has released its annual Production and Use Survey for 2022. Production of coal combustion products (CCP) declined from 77.3 million tons in 2021 to 75.2 million tons while beneficial use in 2022 was 46.8 million tons, an increase of 1 percent from 2021. 62% of coal ash produced was recycled. NRMCA, through its Build With Strength and Pave Ahead initiatives, is seeking nominations for the 2024 Concrete Innovations Awards. The award program recognizes outstanding achievement in concrete design and construction. Innovative projects are awarded for outstanding performance while lowering environmental impacts, including embodied and operational carbon footprint. Buildings and infrastructure projects substantially designed and built using concrete in the United States in the last five years are eligible. Projects must demonstrate improved performance and sustainability. An NRMCA member company must have been involved in supplying products or services to the project. Areas of excellence include advanced quality control, innovative cements, supplementary cementitious materials, admixtures, aggregates, recycling methods, carbon capture and sequestration technologies, measurement tools or innovative designs that improve performance and sustainability. In late December, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk, FAIA, held a year end meeting of the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) Rhode Island chapter to review 2023 accomplishments and aspirations. In 2024, he will serve as past president of AIA's Rhode Island chapter, the seventh oldest in the U.S. The AIA RI chapter currently has over 300 members.
