NRMCA needs to ensure pro-business and pro-industry candidates are elected to Congress in November. By coming together as an industry, we can help influence the political process by ensuring that legislators consider the impact proposed laws could potentially have on the ready mixed concrete industry. Every day members of Congress vote on issues that affect the way concrete producers do business; NRMCA's Political Action Committee, CONCRETEPAC, needs to have a strong voice on Capitol Hill to allow us to maximize the industry’s involvement in the political process. Last year was CONCRETEPAC’s most successful fundraising year in its history and planning for this year’s events is well underway. Your company’s support through corporate sponsorship enables NRMCA to underwrite the cost of CONCRETEPAC events. Donations of auction items allow us to raise funds for the PAC through personal contributions from our members. If your company has sporting event tickets, vacation homes, access to exclusive clubs, etc. that you would like to donate to the Lost Shaker of Salt Dinner and Live Auction, please contact Heather Houck. Last week, NRMCA began its advocacy efforts for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) annual 2026 revision cycle for the 2027 editions of selected NFPA Codes and Standards. Senior Vice President, Codes and Standards, Shamim Rashid-Sumar, participated in the pre-first draft meeting of the Technical Committee on Construction and Demolition (COD-AAA) in New Orleans as a Principal voting member. The technical committee formed task groups to study various topics for review, including but not limited to construction materials for enclosures and fire separation, safeguarding construction operations for tall mass timber wood structures and safeguarding construction operations for large wood frame structures. NFPA technical committees and panels serve as the principal consensus bodies responsible for developing and updating all NFPA codes and standards. The NFPA standards development process does encourage public participation in the development of its standards. The deadline for submission of public inputs for the first draft of 2027 editions of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NFPA 5000 Building Construction and Safety Code and other referenced NFPA codes and standards is June 4. Interested parties may view more on how the NFPA standards development process works here. For more information on NRMCA codes and standards advocacy efforts, contact Shamim Rashid-Sumar at ssumar@nrmca.org. Buildings
On January 11, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk and Lindy Group/PJ Dick’s Noah Shaltes jointly presented on current strategies to Reduce the Embodied Carbon Footprint of Concrete in Pennsylvania. The session was hosted by the Carbon Leadership Forum of Pittsburgh, the Carbon Leadership Forum of Philadelphia and by Penn State University. The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), put into law in 1986, requires industries to report on the “storage, use and releases of hazardous chemicals (and materials) to federal, state, and local governments.” This specific reporting requirement under EPCRA is commonly referred to as Community Right-to-Know (CRTK) reporting, Tier II reporting and/or Section 311/312 reporting. The reporting deadline is Friday, March 1. Click here to learn more about EPCRA, chemical/material thresholds and how to report. The staff contact is Kevin Walgenbach. Learning & Development
