Earlier this month Build With Strength Director, Building Innovations, Justin McCain met with the sustainability and engineering team at Page in Austin, TX, to present the NRMCA Concrete Carbon Calculator. Page is a full-service, international architecture, engineering and design leader with a strong influence in all major Texas markets. McCain provided information on how to use the NRMCA Industry Wide EPD and Benchmark Report to calculate estimated carbon of concrete through the life cycle of a building.

The available services the BWS team offers the engineering community were also introduced, including specification reviews, life cycle assessments and concrete design assistance. The meeting provided valuable education to the firm and promoted concrete as the building material of choice throughout Texas.

Build With Strength and NRMCA have announced the recipients of the 2024 Concrete Innovations Award. This program celebrates accomplishments in the design and construction of concrete structures where an NRMCA member company was involved in supplying products or services to the project. Winners represent building and infrastructure projects substantially designed and built using concrete and having improved all-around performance, including reduced carbon footprint.

Michael Wymant and Derek Torres from Build With Strength attended and exhibited at the 2024 Disasters Expo held in Miami from March 6 to 7. They aimed to educate fellow vendors and attendees about the Concrete Design Center which offers free services such as reviewing concrete specifications to include guides to lowering concrete’s carbon footprint. As they stopped at vendors exhibit spaces, Wymant and Torres established new connections in hopes of continuing to promote the benefits that concrete has to offer for vertical construction through its sustainability, resiliency and efficiency. Through their efforts, concrete will be integrated in more projects throughout the state of Florida.

As part of the Build With Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes sustainable concrete solutions for buildings. For more information, contact Michael Wymant at mwymant@nrmca.org or 850-818-2057 or Derek Torres at dtorres@nrmca.org or 973-876-0938.

Two new promotional flyers focusing on concrete roundabouts are now available on pavehead.com. The first, Concrete Roundabouts, explains how concrete is better for roundabouts due to its ability to withstand the stresses from traffic better than flexible pavements. The second, a Concrete Results Project Profile, highlights a concrete roundabout constructed at Interstate 70 and Horizon Drive in Grand Junction, CO. Both pieces were developed in response to directives from the NRMCA Promotion Committee.
