The 2024 Fleet Benchmarking Survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance. This year’s form includes new questions on mixer drum composition, idle time and types of fuel being used. The survey is used to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures. Information gathered is published in a full report in NRMCA's Concrete InFocus magazine each autumn. A shorter Executive Summary of the survey is also made available to all. Entries must be e-mailed to fleetbenchmark@nrmca.org by Friday, April 19. Click here for more information on to download the entry form. The staff contact is Kevin Walgenbach. Last week, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk (shown here above) presented Quantifying and Decarbonizing Concrete 101 at the American Institute of Architects' Procrastinator’s Day event in Trumbull, CT. The annual event is held before the date when Architecture CT professional licensing continuing education credits are due.
Last week NRMCA Director, Energy Codes and Standards, Darryl Dixon and Christy Martin, executive director of the Concrete Promotional Group, Inc. presented to members of the Kansas City American Institute of Architects (AIA) on Concrete Design for Energy Efficiency at their chapter headquarters in downtown Kansas City, MO. Dixon presented how thermal mass benefits are illuminated within the energy code and how building envelopes constructed with concrete components easily exceed code minimum requirements for heat, air and moisture. The presentation provided insight on how designing with concrete and adopting the latest building energy codes will maximize energy-efficiency, sustainability and resiliency to deliver achievable GHG (Greenhouse Gas) and GWP (Global Warming Potential) goals. The next Concrete Innovations session, Architecture and Sustainability, will be held Wednesday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time. Architects play a significant role in reducing the environmental impacts of building projects. The concept of sustainability is complex, and architects lead teams of designers, engineers and contractors to design and build more sustainable projects. This session will provide case studies on state-of-the-art buildings that are at the leading edge of sustainability, including energy efficiency and resilience, while lowering embodied carbon footprint.
Don’t miss out on the sponsorship opportunities for the 18th National Mixer Driver Championship to be held this fall at NRMCA's ConcreteWorks. Review what’s available and lock in your spot today. For more information, contact Jacques Jenkins at jjenkins@nrmca.org. Pavement
NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted assisted Diane Warner, executive director of the Northwest Cement Council (NCC) in the NCC exhibit booth at the Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association 2024 Spring Conference. Held April 1 - 4 in Seaside, OR, the conference attracted approximately 210 public works personnel who took part in over 20 technical sessions covering numerous tracks focused on all aspects of planning, design, construction, maintenance and sustainability. Both keynote speakers addressed the importance of resilience in public works projects – a message embraced by NRMCA and NCC. The exhibit booth had a great deal of technical information on both cement and concrete applications for public works, including concrete overlays, cement-based pavement solutions, concrete trails, portland limestone cement and more, Halsted said. Traffic at the exhibit booth was lively, with numerous individuals stopping by for information or engaging in discussions about specific projects. Halsted also introduced attendees to NRMCA’s Build With Strength and Pave Ahead initiatives; discussed how attendees could benefit from the education and design assistance these programs offer; and followed up on leads generated from the conference. For additional information, contact Greg Halsted at ghalsted@nrmca.org. Recently, the Civil Engineering Department at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) hosted a Concrete Exposure Day filled with a variety of speakers, including NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Amanda Hult, and officials from the Florida Department of Transportation, the CP Tech Center, Rollcon, LLC and Argos. Hult presented on Industrial pavement design and PavementDesigner.org. A demonstration by Somero of its S-485 Laser Screed and NRMCA Producer member CEMEX provided a mixer truck (shown here), enabling attendees to have an upclose look at the ready mix placement. The event was attended by many FGCU students as well as designers and municipalities from surrounding areas. Florida Concrete & Products Association’s Amy Wedel participated on the committee which organized the event. For additional information, contact Amanda Hult at ahult@nrmca.org. Calendar
