Beginning Sunday, May 5, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will conduct a safety awareness program titled Our Roads, Our Safety to highlight the impact large trucks and buses have on our roadways and with the motoring public. The new program will be an “annual safety observance dedicated to raising awareness on how to share the road safely with large trucks and buses.” FMCSA encourages the public and fleet companies to learn about the program at an event on Wednesday, May 8 at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, DC, or by highlighting the program through website and social media postings. FMCSA has created materials to help promote the program and raise road safety awareness in preparation for the campaign. Click here for more information and to review program materials. The NRMCA staff contact is Kevin Walgenbach. NRMCA and the Arizona Rock Products Association (ARPA) recently joined forces to host a Build With Strength roundtable and bus tour (seen here) for the greater Phoenix region in order to engage owners, designers, contractors and policy makers on the topic of building resiliency, efficiency and sustainability with concrete. To accomplish this, the Build With Strength committee kicked off the event with a tour of Desert Aggregates quarry and ready mixed concrete operations to give attendees an inside look at the inner workings of concrete production. The tour then visited a 250-unit luxury home development made with HercuWall, a novel type of insulated concrete form (ICF) system that negates the need for wood within the structure walls. Following this, the tour visited Compass Datacenter’s Moonraker project which aimed to implement significant strategies geared toward incorporating sustainability in building with concrete. Overall, attendees were able to witness the various ways in which projects can build with strength through the use of ready mixed concrete.
