NRMCA is still looking for good men and women to serve on the Board of Directors. While serving on the Board requires both commitment and energy, it is a rewarding opportunity to give back to the industry. Nominees are vetted by the Nominating Committee which consists of the current chairman of the board, the immediate past chairman of the board and past chairmen of the board for the previous seven years who are still in an active capacity in the industry. The selected slate of nominees is then presented to and elected by the general membership and will serve a three-year term that begins immediately following the Annual Convention in 2025. Employees of NRMCA Producer members in good standing are eligible to serve; click here to review the Board member job description. To nominate a candidate, please complete and submit this form to Heather Houck at hhouck@nrmca.org by Friday, July 26. Self-nominations are accepted. Please note that if you rolled off the Board in 2023 or 2024 or are set to roll off in 2025 and you would like to be considered to serve on the 2025-2028 Board, you MUST submit a nomination form.

The award program is generously sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB).
NRMCA’s Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. NRMCA member companies producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada are eligible to enter. Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits. Winning entrants will be honored at the Awards Ceremony at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks this October in Aurora, CO. Winners will also be featured in a 2024 edition of NRMCA’s Concrete InFocus magazine and Concrete Products magazine. Entries and photos must be e-mailed to Kevin Walgenbach by Friday, July 19. Last week, NRMCA participated in the 2024 ASHRAE Annual Conference held from June 22 - 26 in Indianapolis. Director, Energy Codes and Standards, Darryl Dixon; Director, Sustainability, Codes and Standards Tiffany Reed-Villarreal and Director, Codes and Standards, Julian Mills-Beale advocated to move forward key legislative initiatives and discussed material decarbonization, sustainability and energy efficiency in the built environment along with other building science professionals and industry allies. As members of multiple ASHRAE project committees, the NRMCA codes and standards team played a crucial role in shaping industry guidelines. A key area of focus was the clarification of thermal resistance and thermal bridging determinations. These concepts are vital in assessing the energy efficiency of buildings and their components. The proposals under consideration have far-reaching implications for the construction industry. By clarifying these thermal performance metrics, the committee aims to enhance the accuracy of building energy assessments. The NRMCA team's involvement in the 90.1 and 189.1 project committees underscores the concrete industry's commitment to energy-efficient and sustainable construction. The codes and standards teams’ input helps ensure that concrete's thermal properties are accurately represented in industry standards, promoting its use in energy-efficient building designs. During the conference, long-time NRMCA consultant and industry advocate Martha VanGeem received the ASHRAE Exceptional Service Award for her service on numerous technical committees, presentations and publications. NRMCA thanks her for her advocacy efforts and dedication to the industry. As a leading advocate for concrete within the codes and standards community, we celebrate Martha’s achievement and contributions to NRMCA and its partners. NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted recently assisted Clay Slocum, director of engineering with the California Nevada Cement Association (CNCA), on a QA/QC presentation regarding an upcoming parkway extension for the city of Roseville, CA, northwest of Sacramento. The June 25 meeting was comprised of city engineers and project construction management team members with Halsted and Slocum covering all aspects of conventional concrete pavement construction, including mix design, placing, curing, jointing and testing. They tried to ensure that all participants were on the same page to have a successful project completion. Halsted said Roseville is a regional innovator when it comes to concrete pavement, having recently completed a major and highly successful roller-compacted concrete pavement project. He and Slocum assured city officials that they would be with them every step of the way on their latest concrete endeavor while also emphasizing the assistance available through NRMCA's Pave Ahead program and CNCA. For additional information, contact Greg Halsted at ghalsted@nrmca.org. The Cement Council of Texas is hosting an Industrial and Non-traditional Pavements Workshop in Houston on Wednesday, July 24. Earn PDHs at this free event while learning about parking lots design, jointing, overlays, Portland Limestone Cement and roller compacted concrete along with other relevant topics. The course is intended for civil and geotechnical engineers, architects, landscape architects, public works officials and others who design pavements. Contractors, product suppliers and land developers will also benefit from this seminar. Registration is limited. Click here for more information or contact Amanda Hult at Amanda Hult. Calendar
