As a leading program operator for the concrete industry, NRMCA recently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for CalPortland. The EPD covers 50 mix designs from each of CalPortland’s Front Avenue, Hillsboro and West Vancouver plants in the Portland, OR, area. The EPD was created by CalPortland utilizing The Cement Sustainability Initiative’s Environmental Product Declaration Tool. The CSI EPD Tool was developed to facilitate the generation of sector-specific EPDs for cement and concrete. The cloud-based tool was designed to be easy to use, facilitate the overall process and reduce the costs of preparing environmental impact information from cement and concrete production. CalPortland’s EPD was verified by the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute.
To date, the ready mixed concrete industry, including material suppliers, have 33 verified EPDs with a total of 9,390 products, by far the largest total of any building product category. As part of the Build with Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes Strength Through Transparency for member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency.

NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem recently joined a host of industry colleagues in Denver at the annual Concrete Day at the Capitol. This year’s event was the first time that Governor John Hickenlooper was able to address the group. The ninth annual "Concrete Day at the Capitol," as declared by a proclamation from the governor, was a resounding success, Clem said. More than 500 legislators and staffers were fed a barbeque lunch grilled on site, providing concrete industry representatives the opportunity to visit with lawmakers regarding the importance of the concrete industry to the state’s economy. The event attracted legislators representing just over 50% of the entire legislature.

NRMCA advocates on behalf of the ready mixed concrete industry through our involvement in the political process. CONCRETEPAC is the ready mixed concrete industry’s political action committee (PAC) that supports pro-business, pro-ready mixed concrete candidates for federal office.
Please note that federal law requires companies to “authorize” the PAC for each calendar year before NRMCA can share details about the PAC or solicit contributions. Federal law only allows corporate members of NRMCA to grant prior approval to only one national trade association's PAC per calendar year. However, granting prior approval for CONCRETEPAC does not preclude employees from contributing to local or state PACs, national members or ideological PACs or a company’s own federal PAC. Eligible employees include those with executive, managerial or senior administrative responsibilities.
Click here to give prior authorization to CONCRETEPAC today and learn more about how you can help the ready mixed concrete industry’s voice be heard on Capitol Hill. Now in its 15th year, NRMCA's Developing Industry’s Leaders (DIL) program is a premier career development tool. Participants are given the opportunity to advance their strategic thinking skills and network with peers while being mentored by NRMCA’s senior staff. The DIL agenda differs from other leadership programs in that it exposes 24 selected participants to our industry’s big issues from an all-encompassing, national perspective. Once done with their formal training, DILs are expected to make a long-term commitment to move their team’s initiative forward by joining, and attending, the appropriate NRMCA committee meeting twice a year. DIL participation on NRMCA’s committees infuses new blood into an industry’s leadership track.
