The response rate encompasses the U.S. and Canada; specifically, U.S. South-Central and Southwest companies along with those producing more than 500,000 cubic yards a year are currently under reported proportionate to annual productivity stats.
The survey is 100% anonymous so NRMCA cannot tell you if your company has participated. By the same token, that anonymity maintains privacy so hopefully NRMCA accurately reports mixer driver recruitment and retention data.

Does your facility need to report to the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Program? Have you run the calculations to determine if your facility does? Do you know what the requirements are and/or how to report if necessary? Now’s the time to obtain answers to all of these questions. Remember, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) TRI Program “tracks the management of more than 650 toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to human health and the environment.“ Specifically, “U.S. facilities in certain industry sectors must report annually how much of each chemical is released to the environment and/or managed through recycling, energy recovery and treatment.” This information is then submitted annually to EPA and compiled in the TRI.
Facilities that handle toxic chemicals, including ready mixed concrete plants, are required to calculate the quantities that were handled and if any quantity is over an allowable threshold, that chemical and amount need to be reported under the program. Should a facility need to report, the reporting deadline is Sunday, July 1.

On June 17, the Los Angeles Times published an opinion piece by journalist Vince Beiser titled “Concrete is the stuff civilization is made of. But for all its blessings, there are huge environmental costs.” In it, Beiser misrepresents the cement and concrete industry’s environmental impact and negates the positives of resilient, non-combustible concrete construction. Important - Time Sensitive - Must Read: NRMCA is updating the Product Category Rule (PCR) for concrete and is seeking comments from stakeholders, including concrete producers and product suppliers. Product Category Rules (PCR) define the criteria for producing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). PCRs have a shelf life of five years and the current PCR is expiring in 2018. Over the past 18 months, NRMCA, in collaboration with the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) and key industry participants, has revised the PCR to meet changes in international standards.

Swederski Concrete Construction, Inc. (SCCI) is no stranger to NRMCA and its many successful parking lot projects through the years. Father Len has been a guest speaker at a number of NRMCA events and now the second generation of Swederski’s is taking the business to new heights: the NRMCA Local Paving Team is happy to announce that Joe Swederski will address the Promotion Committee meeting at NRMCA ConcreteWorks on Thursday, September 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. Swederski will share success best practices that have made SCCI the premiere concrete parking lot contractor in the nation. Attendees will also have time for “Ask Joe” questions on how to do in their regions what SCCI has done in the Upper Midwest.

NRMCA’s Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. Any NRMCA member company producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada is eligible to enter.
Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits. Winning entrants will be honored at the Awards Luncheon at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks this October in Washington, DC. Winners will also be featured in a 2018 edition of NRMCA’s Concrete InFocus magazine as well as Concrete Products magazine.
