New York REALTORS sold 5,866 existing single-family homes in October 2011, an increase of 1.4 percent from October 2010. The October 2011 sales total fell 11.7 percent from the September 2011 total of 6,647. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced the five-member committee that will score and rank each of the plans submitted by the 10 regional economic development councils competing for roughly $200 million in direct state funding. Congress has extended the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) authority through December 16, 2011. NAR is urging Congress to complete a five-year NFIP re-authorization bill (H.R. 1309) to provide certainty and avoid further disruption to real estate markets.
