REALTOR NEWS
Take action and tell your state senator to support the Fairness in Cooperative Home Ownership Act (S.5644), which could be voted on soon in the Senate. This legislation is imperative to help ensure that the process for purchasing cooperative housing in New York State is fair, transparent and does the utmost to protect against illegal discrimination.

The REALTOR-supported NY First Home bill (A.4427-B/S.7903) passed unanimously in the Senate Finance Committee. The bill must be considered by the Senate Rules Committee before going to the floor for a full-Senate vote. Learn more here.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The National Association of REALTORS issued a Call for Action asking all members to urge their  U.S. Senator to support passage of H.R. 3700, the Housing Opportunities through Modernization Act.  This legislation passed the House 427-0 last month. It would: remove a burdensome and expensive FHA condo approval process; reduce FHA restrictions on the number of condos available to homebuyers; and permanently streamline Rural Housing Service loan processing. Take action here.

In a recent letter to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the National Association of REALTORS proposed three changes to TRID in the coming rule adjustments. First, NAR asked the CFPB to clarify the rules around allowing lenders to share the closing disclosure form with "third parties" after receiving consent from the consumer. REALTORS have reported problems in getting access to the form. NAR urged the CFPB to provide some clarity on whether lenders can "re-baseline costs" on  the form after it has gone out to the consumer to reflect a "valid change in circumstance and give more information on the time frames that are allowed for these changes." NAR also urged the CFPB to extend post-consummation timelines to correct minor TRID errors to 180 days. Learn more here.
