REALTOR NEWS
Take action to ask your US Senator to support H.R. 3700, which would remove a burdensome and expensive FHA condo approval process, reduce FHA restrictions on the number of condos available to homebuyers and permanently streamline the processing of loans under the Rural Housing Service.

To assist its members in educating consumers about the recent changes to the state's School Tax Relief (STAR) program, NYSAR has created an informational flyer explaining how the program will work for homeowners based on when they purchased their home. The flyer is available here.

June is Housing Opportunities Month! GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The 2016 legislative session in Albany came to a close very early on Saturday morning. Members of both houses of the Legislature returned home after reaching agreements on several high profile issues including foreclosed homes and bank owned properties, testing drinking water in schools, and several bills to address the opioid/heroin epidemic. In the final week of the legislative session, NYSAR had two of its priorities, NY First Home and coop transparency, pass the state Senate, but ultimately they did not reach the Assembly floor for a vote. NYSAR will be educating lawmakers regarding these two issues in the off-session as we will be seeking passage of both proposals once again in 2017. For a more comprehensive end of session summary, click here.

The REALTOR-supported NY First Home bill (A.4427-B/S.7903) passed unanimously in the State Senate on June 16, 2016. Encouraging home buying for first-time buyers is critical for the future housing market and NYSAR will continue to support this initiative. More information can be found here.

The state Senate confirmed Rossana Rosado to lead the state Department of State as Secretary of State. Among the agency's responsibilities is the oversight of the licensing of professionals including real estate licensees. It also sets the state’s building construction and energy conservation standards. More on this story can be found here.
