Existing-home sales sprang ahead in May to their highest pace in almost a decade, while the uptick in demand amidst lagging supply levels pushed the median sales price to an all-time high, according to the National Association of REALTORS. All major regions except for the Midwest saw strong sales increases last month.Total existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, grew 1.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.53 million in May from a downwardly revised 5.43 million in April. With last month's gain, sales are now up 4.5 percent from May 2015 (5.29 million) and are at their highest annual pace since February 2007 (5.79 million). Learn more here.

Adriano Espaillat declared victory and the Democratic nomination over a crowded field of candidates, including Keith Wright, to replace outgoing Rep. Charles Rangel in the 13th district.
D. Phil Oliva won the Republican nomination and will face Democrat Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney in the 18th district.
In the 19th Congressional District, John Fasso defeated Andrew Heaney for the Republican nomination. Zephyr Teachout defeated Will Yandik for the Democratic nomination, setting the matchup against Fasso in the fall to replace Rep. Chris Gibson.
Caudia Tenney won the Republican nomination and will face Democrat Kim Myers to replace Rep. Richard Hanna in the 22nd district.
Colleen Deacon won the Democratic nomination and will face first-term Republican Rep. John Katko in the 24th district.
On June 22, NAR, along with 24 other organizations, sent a letter to Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mel Watt urging him to eliminate or reduce loan level price adjustments (LLPAs) by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This was an outstanding joint effort by consumer and industry groups, many of whom continue to collaborate on broader housing finance reform. The coalition raised concerns with the GSEs double-charging consumers for assumed credit losses and capital levels that are already being assumed by existing g-fees and private mortgage insurance coverage.
