Message from NYSAE Team

If you ask my friends what I did you’d get a bunch of wrong answers; I think he does events, or public relations, or volunteer work, like fundraisers. Close, but no cigar. Even Glassdoor and Indeed don’t know what I do; the last five jobs they recommended for me are marketing analyst, sales, sales, sales and public relations.

Sharing a question that recently came into headquarters.

Q. How do I get my members to register for our conference earlier than usual? While we don’t have the program completed yet, we know that more than 50% of members will register no matter who the speakers are. The rooming list shows a lot more people than registered, but we know they’re booking their room so that they don’t get left out in the cold.

ASAE and its Professional Certification Coalition (PCC) are urging associations to support a bipartisan bill introduced last December to allow “529” education savings accounts to be used for workforce training, professional certification and other credentialing program costs.

The Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act was introduced by Reps. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Rob Wittman (R-VA) to help students and individuals already in the workforce advance their career development through training, certification and credentialing programs. Currently, 529 accounts can only be used to pay for tuition at colleges and universities, vocational schools and other post-secondary institutions.

With complex rules governing the nonprofit sector, many nonprofits may incorporate advocacy into key parts of their work, but may need clarity regarding the scope of permissible activities according to the law. This event will cover:
• differences between lobbying and advocacy, and what an association or nonprofit can do on behalf of its members
• the legal aspects of lobbying versus advocacy, with a particular focus on 501 (c)(3) and 501 (c)(6) organizations
• what is often on an advocacy "wish list" and how that aligns with organizational implementation.
• bringing the plan to action; from galvanizing grassroots support, communicating setbacks / progress, to engaging in effective meetings with legislators.
