Message from the Chair
Spring has arrived! We see some signs that it is real. Spring has always been a bridge from the dark days and cold of winter into the bright warmth of summer. That metaphor could not be more appropriate in 2021. Can we finally be emerging from the darkness of this pandemic? As the weather turns warmer and as the vaccines slowly roll out, we can begin to set our sights on a different but more normal future.

Ask the Expert
Q. There’s a lot of talk now about hybrid events and conferences and my Board is asking the staff to plan them for our upcoming events. I believe I understand the concept – providing the usual value to those attendees who register and attend in person, and then at the same time providing an online experience to share with those who remain at home tuning in. We have keynotes and simultaneous breakout sessions during our 3-day conference. Does this mean hiring videographers to attend the sessions and livestream? Or would an AV company handle all this now? I’m just unsure of how to budget and plan for this, but of course my Board is expecting something. Thank you.
News for New York Associations
The New Jersey Hospital Association has added two people to its senior leadership team. Raymond Brandes will serve as the group’s first chief operating officer, and Christopher Bailey as its chief financial officer. Both men bring a wealth of healthcare and policy experience to NJHA, whose nearly 400 members include hospitals, health systems and post-acute care providers.
Governor Cuomo announced that indoor dining will be allowed to increase capacity to 50% of total occupancy effective March 19. The rules will still require six feet of physical distancing or a physical barrier. We continue to push for the same rules for New York City as the rest of the state, lifting of the curfew, and eliminating the food requirement. We hope to see further progress on those fronts very soon. Follow news from the Empire State Restaurant & Tavern Association.
The New York County Dental Society is pleased to provide a recording of this informative webinar, led by two distinguished speakers. The one-hour program tackles important points around vaccine safety and efficacy and offers guidance to help mobilize vaccination acceptance among personnel in dental offices.
