Each year, our board and staff work very hard to spread the word of our (5) College Scholarship Awards. We provide up to (5) $500 scholarships for first time or returning college students annually. The application deadline for the 2020 awards will be February 5, 2020. All applications must be postmarked by that date. Applicants must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States, a resident of the State of New York, and reside within a water or wastewater system that is a member of the NYRWA. Applications are available on our website www.nyruralwater.org and in our quarterly Aquafacts magazine.

The Meredith H. Thompson Award is a continuing education award which allows (1) delegate from (1) of our voting member systems to attend the National Rural Water Association, WaterPro Conference. This is a great opportunity to meet and network with water and wastewater professionals from across this great nation, attend continuing education courses, and browse the extensive exhibit hall. To be eligible for this drawing, you must represent a NYRWA voting member system, attend our annual business meeting on Tuesday at our Annual Training Workshop & Exhibition, and put your prepared card in for the drawing…it’s that simple! All you need to do is attend our Annual Business Meeting. The 41st Annual NYRWA Technical Training Workshop & Exhibition will be held May 18-20, 2020, in Lake Placid. In 2020, the NRWA WaterPro Conference will be held September 14-16, in Phoenix, AZ. Good Luck!

House Committee Passes Clean Water State Revolving Fund Reauthorization: On October 29th, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved legislation (H.R. 1497) to almost double current spending levels for EPA’s clean water state revolving fund (SRF) by 2025 as well as allow states the flexibility to extend the term of NPDES permits up to 10 years if both the state issuing the permit and the permittee agreed to the extension and several prerequisite conditions are included in the permit. The legislation requires states to set-aside a minimum of 10 percent of annual SRF funds to provide grants to communities with affordability concerns and establishes minimum funding set-asides to address the water infrastructure needs of small and rural communities (summary and text of legislation).
