Between The Pipes
NYRWA News

There is still time to pre-register for the NYRWA Web-Based Workshop, May 18 & 19, 2021 you can download the agenda here: https://nyruralwater.org/conference.

All course topics have been approved by NYS DOH and NYS DEC. Each 1 hour course is approved for 1 contact hour for water and wastewater.

We will be offering (8) one-hour dual certified (water and wastewater) webinar style training sessions coupled with our Annual Business Meeting and a few cash drawings. Our thanks to our Associate Members who have stepped up to provide this training, showing their commitment to this association yet again!

The registration process will be more entailed this year. This will be a multi-step process. First, you must pre-register by completing the NYRWA pre-registration form in its entirety (including the billing information as it is needed to process your registration), and return with payment or your registration will not be accepted. The deadline for pre-registration is April 23, 2021. Due to all the details of this web-based workshop we cannot accept registrations after this date, so don't miss out, get those registrations in.

Each registrant must have their own (unique) email address to be able to participate and receive contact hours. After NYRWA processes your registration, we will mail a confirmation letter that will include further details on how to register for each session through GoToWebinar. It is very important that you register through GoToWebinar using the same email address you provide on the NYRWA pre-registration form. You must register individually for each session you plan to attend.

If you are planning to view the webinar using a smart phone or tablet, please make sure to download the GoToWebinar app in order for the webinar to properly record your participation and receive credit for attending. You will need audio for these webinars.

Each registrant must have their own device and their own unique email address to receive credit for each webinar attended (this is how your attendance is tracked and recorded for credit). The agenda with registration form can be downloaded here. We hope you all will be willing to take this leap with us, until we can meet again in 2022.

Our sincere thanks to Congressman Chris Jacobs for taking the time from his busy schedule to tour the water systems in the Village of Perry and the Village of Castile. The Congressman shared discussion with officials on aging infrastructure and their individual system needs. Jeff Drain, Water & Wastewater Superintendent with the Village of Perry and Tom Wright, Superintendent with the Village of Castile expertly expressed the needs of rural water and wastewater utilities to the Congressman. Thank you everyone for making this a successful day!

Tools for AWIA Compliance

By Charlene Kormondy, U.S. EPA Office of Water, Water Security Division

Water utilities today face unprecedented threats to the security and resilience of their systems. In every state, drinking water utilities may be susceptible to a wide array of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, wildfires, and winter storms that can damage treatment and distribution systems, disrupt power supplies, and potentially contaminate source waters. When disasters do occur, rural water systems serve as a critical lifeline for water systems, public health and the community at large. While responding to natural disasters can be challenging, you can take steps now to prepare your utility and community for future incidents.
