Turner Construction Holds Safety Stand Down
Turner Construction has been holding events throughout the month of April, and holds its twelfth annual Safety Stand Down on May 2, 2016. The weeks leading up to this have provided an opportunity to talk further about Turner Construction's Building L.I.F.E. philosophy. L.I.F.E. is an acronym for Living Injury Free Every day. Some of the core beliefs include: all injuries are preventable; no task is so important that we need to put people at risk to do it; we can always plan a safe approach; safety should never take a backseat to schedule or production. Rather it has to be a core value that takes precedence over everything we do. Turner will celebrate their Founder's Day on Friday, May 6, marking the 114th anniversary of Turner's founding.
Kenaidan Celebrates Safety and Health Week
Some of their events are taking place at their shop while others will be held at various projects throughout the area. Safety facts will be posted throughout the week on Kenaidan's internal portal communication system, illustrating the importance of safety both in the workplace and in the home. Employees will be asked to make a photo submission which illustrates why "They Work Safe." Submissions will be entered into a draw for a series of prizes. Regulatory changes as they relate to Fall Protection, Noise and Atmospheric conditions will also be relayed to employees by Kenaidan's H&S Department.

Alpeza General Contracting Believes in Team Spirit
Alpeza General Contracting will be conducting its COR
internal audit training during Safety Week. This week, staff
completed remodelling of the AGC warehouse where a 'fun zone' was created
to raise awareness of wellness, build team spirit and provide an incentive for
employees to focus on safety. AGC president John Alpeza
believes that team spirit is essential in creating workplace safety as,
"employees who truly function as a team are motivated to help one another
reach their safety goals." In order to get everyone motivated to
participate, the COR internal audit training will be held in this new 'fun
zone' that includes two ping pong tables, a basketball hoop, a treadmill,
leather lounge couches and future arcade games. Alpeza
General Contracting president John Alpeza places a high priority on the safety
and wellness of his employees. Last spring, the office organized an 'AGC Safety
and Wellness Weekend' in Prince Edward County. Staff attended a four-hour
workshop on COR safety training, after which they reduced office stress through
a yoga class and time relaxing on the beach. Recognizing that employees who are
less stressed are more likely to take safety seriously, John presented each
with a customized AGC yoga mat at the retreat and implemented a weekly office
yoga class with a certified yoga instructor. For those days when extra stress
relief is needed, AGC employees are also offered an in-office certified Thai
massage. Recently, the office returned from a week-long 'Safety and Wellness'
Caribbean cruise. On board, employees attended two safety seminars organized by
AGC Safety Lead Paul Lijoe while enjoying the rest of their downtime in optional
yoga and shore excursions.
