Responsibility for OCOT moves to Ministry of Labour

In a surprise move, the Ontario Government has transferred responsibility for the Ontario College of Trades from the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, to the Ministry of Labour.
This occurs as the government is struggling with the challenge of implementing the Report by Tony Dean on reforming the College. The proposal to refer certain disputes to the Ontario Labour Relations Board has caused considerable opposition by some of the certified trades and has slowed down the development and introduction of legislation. We expect the move to the MOL will again delay legislation to the fall session.
OGCA and our partners in the Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance will be meeting with Minister Flynn and his officials to implement the Dean proposals.
