This compares to a 723 rate group rate of .76, a construction sector rate of 1.09, and a WSIB schedule 1 rate of .85. This means it is more than 4 times safer to work for an OGCA member than an average non-member construction company and 3 times safer than the average employer registered with the WSIB in all sectors.
OGCA member’s commitment to safety and continuous improvement has paid off with industry leading safety performance. We were a pioneer in the Safety Group program and partnered with IHSA to bring CORTM to Ontario and promote it to the industry. OGCA has recently launched the League of Champions to promote a safety culture and recognize companies that excel in health and safety.
This is one more reason why owners should prequalify contractors for safety.
It is also expected that the WSIB will consider lower assessment rates for those rate groups who have performed well. An announcement is expected in mid-September.
