Early on the morning of October 19, 2017, OGCA members descended on Queen’s Park to lobby the members of the Ontario legislature and staff. The day began with a breakfast reception that included many members of the Board of Directors, APP, Lien Act Committee members and 20 members of the legislature plus staff.
The focus was on raising OGCA’s profile with the members and delivering our message of supporting and improving Bill 124 amendments to the Construction Lien Act.
Chairman Frank Perricone spoke to the importance of OGCA and our commitment to workplace health and safety, and Paul Raboud addressed the complexity of the Bill and the need to get the details right.
Attorney General Yasir Naqvi recognized OGCA’s vital role in the development of the legislation in our work with Bruce Reynolds, Sharon Vogel and their advisory committee. He praised the consultative process and the need to bring greater financial certainty to the industry through its proposals.
OGCA members broke into teams and met with 21 members in their offices to deliver our message and discuss industry challenges and the amendments to the Construction Lien Act.
Many members had the opportunity to be guests in Question Period and to be introduced in the Legislature.
It was a very successful Lobby Day as the Legislation has now moved to Committee deputations to be followed by a clause by clause review and consideration of amendments.
A special thanks to Craig Brockwell and Stewart Kiff of Solstice Canada who briefed our members and organized the breakfast event and meetings.
