Construction Act Bill 142 Implementation Dates Set

Minister Naqvi has announced the effective dates for implementation of the Construction Act. Amendments to Modernization of Construction Lien and Holdback rules is effective July 1, 2018, and amendments related to prompt payment, adjudication and liens against municipalities will be applied to all new contracts as of October 1, 2019. This long implementation period gives the industry time to prepare for the massive change to payment and adjudication requirements.
They have also have released four draft regulations to implement the Act for Forms, Procedures for Action, General provisions and Adjudication under Part ll of the Act. OGCA’s Construction Lien Act Committee has provide feedback and recommendations.
