Last Monday was World Mental Health Day (October 10). We’d like to share a blog post with you by Jas Saraw, Vice President, Canada at Procore, on how Scott Construction works to address the “silent epidemic” of mental health challenges in construction.
Scott Construction educates employees on mental health and wellness topics in an effort to reduce the stigma of asking for help. The company has formalized its efforts with a Mental Health Committee (MHC).
The committee recently partnered with Builders Code to host a diversity and inclusion training, which taught employees about bullying in the workplace, as well as how to create and maintain an emotionally and psychologically safe company culture.
To recognize World Mental Health Day, the MHC visited jobsites to pass out mental health resources to field staff. “We want to ensure that we're not just focusing on the office, we want to engage the field as well,'' says Ryley Feenie, Human Resources Generalist at Scott Construction. “We'll be talking to our team members about the resources we have available, and reiterating them with physical printouts our sites can give to staff interested in learning more.”
