December Update

Dr. Joel Moody and Giovanni Cautillo Hon. Monte McNaughton and Judith Reda Typical Stand Down

Looking back on 2021, there have been some great wins for the LOC that, in our opinion, have greatly outweighed the challenges. As I have mentioned in earlier newsletters, 2021 has proven to be a year of solid growth for the LOC, beginning with our registration as a not-for-profit association, and ending with tremendous membership growth. The LOC team is pleased to continue working with our membership and further developing the LOC brand. You have our full commitment that we will continue to Champion Safety across construction in 2022.

By the time this newsletter reaches your inbox, the GFL Get Home Safe for the Holidays campaign will be winding down. What began as a small internal program in 2019 has taken root, and awareness has begun to grow across the construction industry.

We wish to thank the following companies, organizations and individuals who took the pledge with us this December;

One of the recurring messages that were shared at every Safety Stand Down was to Steal Shamelessly, Share Selflessly. Safety is not proprietary and should be shared throughout the industry so that we can all ensure everyone gets home safe! Since the launch of the campaign on December 4, 2022, over 5,000 signatures were added to the banners, representing a multitude of companies in the industry. The LOC is encouraging you all to take the pledge:

I PLEDGE TO NEVER COMPROMISE MY SAFETY OR THE SAFETY OF MY FELLOW WORKERS, TO ENSURE WE ALL GET HOME SAFE.

“No matter the colour of our hats or the company printed on them, we all do the same work – Construction! Our loved ones rely on us to make the right choices, be safe and come home not only for the holidays but every single day. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.”- Lina Savcheva, HS&E Manager, GFL Infrastructure
