Look, I know that the last almost two years have felt surreal and like we have been characters in that movie featuring Bill Murray called “Groundhog Day,” but we all need to keep our focus on moving forward and getting our entire society at a vaccination rate that finally tips the scales of COVID-19. I’m not here to preach to anyone about why it is important to get vaccinated, and I would assume that by now, the scientific evidence that has been presented far outweighed the individual conspiracy theories and rhetoric. And I, for one, would rather base my decision to protect myself, my friends and my family, on the professional recommendations of an epidemiologist rather than the rantings of some basement dwelling podcaster, but I have always preferred evidence to hearsay.

The Surety Association of Canada (SAC) held its 30th Annual General Meeting virtually September 23, 2021, where the slate of officers was presented and approved by the SAC membership. Canada’s only national trade show serving the concrete, aggregates and construction industries is back, better and stronger, February 17-18, 2022 at The International Centre, Toronto CCE is quickly becoming a must attend national event with over 300 national and international exhibitors. CCE has over 30 co-sponsoring and supporting sponsor associations representing the concrete and construction industry. Each of these associations contributes to the educational sessions provided and promoting CCE to their members. The Ontario government continues to operate the program that provides free rapid antigen tests to employers. You can help protect the health of your employees and families by providing the tests over the holidays or when they return to work. Good scheduling software is indispensable for a clear construction schedule. Nowadays, more and more tools are available to create your project schedule. One of these tools is Microsoft Excel. The Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) has released Building Pathways and Pipelines into ICI Construction, a report outlining solutions to address labour shortages amongst project managers and site supervisors in the ICI construction industry. Click here for more information. Looking back on 2021, there have been some great wins for the LOC that, in our opinion, have greatly outweighed the challenges. As I have mentioned in earlier newsletters, 2021 has proven to be a year of solid growth for the LOC, beginning with our registration as a not-for-profit association, and ending with tremendous membership growth. The LOC team is pleased to continue working with our membership and further developing the LOC brand. You have our full commitment that we will continue to Champion Safety across construction in 2022.
