Set to take place March 12-15, 2024 at the stunning resort destination of the Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Resort Spa in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the Canadian Construction Association's (CCA) Annual Conference is an opportunity to gather with industry professionals, thought leaders, and innovators for an immersive and engaging conference experience.
Each day, contractors, supervisors and workers dedicate their skills and expertise to getting the job done safely. Operating various equipment, ladders and other machinery or tools can be dangerous when performed near overhead or underground powerlines. In the past year, contact with overhead wires has increased three times. Hydro One has created a Resource page and Power Safety Toolkit to continue prioritizing safety and understanding the proper procedures that protect workers and the public from the serious dangers that come with working near powerlines.
The government is supporting projects that help jobseekers prepare for good careers in industries with in-demand jobs, such as construction, manufacturing, hospitality and food and beverage processing. Over the last two years the MLITSD held a series of skilled trades career fairs in towns and cities across the province, welcoming more than 40,000 people. In addition to thousands of students in grades 7 to 12, the ministry also welcomed many teachers and parents whose encouragement is helping students make informed decisions about their futures, including fulfilling and well-paying opportunities in the skilled trades. Training is what turns potential into a paycheque. On February 12, 2024, the Court of Appeal for Ontario released its decision on the constitutionality of the Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act, 2019 (often referred to as "Bill 124"). Bill 124 restricted increases to salaries and compensation for employees (unionized and non-unionized) in the broader public sector to no more than 1% each year of a three-year moderation period.
