Walmart and Sam’s Club Health and Wellness is excited to announce the results of our annual optometry scholarship competition, Project Foresight! Project Foresight is a national student competition, which highlights the vision of Walmart and Sam’s Club Health and Wellness to provide quality, affordable and accessible health care for everyone. Students were asked to submit a proposal on a unique practice idea that is applicable to Walmart/Sam’s Club.
Project Foresight is open to all ASCO member optometry students enrolled in their first-, second-, or third-year of school during the academic year of the competition. Fifty students from 19 optometry institutions showcased their ideas via written essay or video submission. The students were then interviewed and evaluated based on the content, viability and creativity of their ideas.
One student was selected from each school that participated and received a prize of $2,000 split as a scholarship of $1,000 in addition to a $1,000 travel grant to attend Optometry’s Meeting and be considered for the grand prize $5,000 scholarship. The grand prize winner of this year’s competition was announced at the annual Walmart and Sam’s Club Project Foresight Dessert Reception. The winner was Noelle Schmitter-Schrier from SCO, and she was presented a $5,000 scholarship and traveling trophy to be kept at SCO for the following year. The national runner-up, Sarah Hileman from AZCOPT, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship.
We look forward to the 2019-2020 Project Foresight National Scholarship Competition!
