Illinois College of Optometry Appoints New Vice President/Chief Financial Officer

Having completed an extensive, highly selective search, the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) has appointed Ms. Christa Ojeda as its vice president for business and finance/chief financial officer. Ms. Ojeda succeeds Mr. John Budzynski, who retired after serving for 15 years. Her official start date at ICO was October 8, 2019.
Ms. Ojeda brings a wealth of financial knowledge and experience to ICO. Her career has included executive-level roles in both the not-for-profit and private sectors. She has served as the chief financial officer at The Academy of General Dentistry, as well as The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana. Ms. Ojeda also holds additional qualifications in the educational field, having consulted for the UNO Charter School Network, Glenwood Academy, North Lawndale College Prep and Chicago International Charter Schools. In the public sector, Ms. Ojeda has been a consultant for USG, CNA, RR Donnelly and McDonald’s. She also served as interim chief financial officer for several social service organizations during her time with RSM McGladrey (now Quattro FPO).
ICO’s president, Dr. Mark Colip, affirms that Ms. Ojeda was “highly rated by everyone that interacted with her throughout the interview process. She is a hands-on CFO and results-oriented.” Ms. Ojeda is fluent in Spanish; she is known for her transparent, open and effective communication.
ICO is pleased to welcome Ms. Ojeda and to add her expertise to key areas in the college, including financial planning, budget modeling, operational performance, process and technology improvements, strategic and facilities planning and risk management. Her many skills include revenue enhancement, cost optimization and process reengineering.
