International Optometric Educators SIG
Met: ASCO’s International SIG group met on Friday, October 25 from 12-2 p.m. during the American Academy of Optometry Meeting held in Orlando, Florida.
Chair(s):
Current: Melissa, A, Vitek, OD, FAAO; Director of International and Continuing Education for Salus University (serving first of a two-year term)
Immediate Past: Dr. Marcela Frazier
Chair-Elect: Meng Meng Xu, OD, FAAO (begins term of chair-elect November 2020)
Actions: Discussed preferences for meetings moving forward. It was decided that if sponsorship is not secured for the next meeting, conducting the meeting outside of the lunch timeframe is preferred to charging a registration fee.
Additional Topics Discussed/Speakers: The topic of Harmonizing Optometric Education Through A Consortium of Educators was presented by Professor Ariela Gordon-Shaag from Hadassah College, Israel. A break-out discussion group followed where members discussed positives and challenges of the consortium model.
