Indiana University School of Optometry Professor Emeritus Clifford Brooks Named AAO’s 2020 Michael G. Harris Family Award Recipient
The American Academy of Optometry Foundation has named IU School of Optometry Professor Emeritus Clifford W. Brooks Jr. the 2020 Michael G. Harris Family Award for Excellence in Optometric Education recipient. The award is given annually to an optometric educator who has demonstrated ongoing and consistent excellence in the education of optometry students and/or the advancement of optometric education.
Dr. Brooks is a professor emeritus and former executive associate dean for academics at the IU School of Optometry. In 2019, he retired from teaching geometric and ophthalmic optics.
He is widely known for his book, System for Ophthalmic Dispensing, which he co-authored with Dr. Irvin Borish. Dr. Brooks has written other books, including Essentials of Ophthalmic Lens Finishing and Understanding Lens Surfacing.
He is founder and president of Fellowship of Christian Optometrists International, with chapters in schools and colleges of optometry throughout the United States.
Before coming to the IU School of Optometry, Dr. Brooks practiced optometry in southern Indiana. He then spent two years as a guest lecturer at the Höheren Fachschule für Augenoptik in Cologne, Germany, where he taught refraction and contact lenses.
