Voices of Diversity Video Project
ASCO’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Special Interest Group is creating a living collection of voices of diversity in optometry. The Voices of Diversity Video Project aims to share the perspective of optometrists and optometric students from all backgrounds who are interested in sharing their personal experiences and unique identity, which supports their unique contribution to the profession.
In line with the profession-wide DEI initiative, a major long-term goal of this project is to generate interest in optometry from under-represented groups of potential student applicants. Creating a more diverse student body and culture in optometric institutions will organically lead to increased diversity, understanding and cultural competency within the profession of optometry. The Voices of Diversity Video Project will be ongoing, expected to grow with continual contributions as the process of diversifying optometry expands.
Be on the lookout for further instructions and a submission portal to upload your own story in video form! In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about this project, please email Dr. Parres Wright at pwrigh1@midwestern.edu.
