Dr. Samantha McIntosh Appointed Chief of Low Vision Service at NSUCO
Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry (NSUCO) is pleased to announce that Samantha McIntosh, OD, assistant professor, has been appointed Chief of Low Vision Rehabilitation Clinic at the college’s clinical branch, The Eye Care Institute.
The Low Vision Rehabilitation service is dedicated to helping patients who are visually impaired and cannot be managed through medical or surgical treatment. The goal of rehabilitation is to assist patients in attaining the highest level of independent living possible given their visual limitations.
Dr. McIntosh joined as NSUCO faculty in 2018. She received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, with minors in sociology and chemistry, at the University of Miami. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2016 and subsequently completed a residency in primary care with an emphasis in geriatrics and low vision.
She joined faculty as an Instructor at Emory University in 2017, where she taught a refractive course to first year ophthalmology residents as well as worked in the Ophthalmology department at Grady Hospital and provided low vision services to visually impaired individuals.
Dr. McIntosh is currently involved in research centered around improving the quality of life of visually impaired individuals. One of her areas of interest involves the use of colored filters to improve the reading sustainability and comfort of visually impaired individuals.
Dr. McIntosh is an active member of the American Academy of Optometry and American Optometric Association. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Vision Research.
