ASCO’s Research Survey Shows Small Increase in Amount of Direct Costs Awarded to Institutions
Direct costs awarded from July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 for research at ASCO member institutions totaled $30.8 million, up from $30 million the previous year, according to ASCO’s 2020-21 Research Survey Report. (Note: One school did not participate in the survey this year, while all schools participated last year.) $19.1 million came from the National Eye Institute (down slightly from $19.2 million) and $7.4 million from industry (down from $7.8 million), while other federal awards rose to $1.7 million, from approximately $900,000. $14 million in direct costs was awarded for research in basic science (down from $17.5 million in the previous year), $9.25 million for research in clinical science (up from $8.3 million) and $6.5 million for research in translational science (up from $3.2 million).
The complete report was distributed to the ASCO Board of Directors in December and includes a list of direct costs awarded to each school and information about faculty and facilities devoted to research.
