CooperVision Sponsors 7th Annual Educators’ Meeting at Global Specialty Lens Symposium
To provide opportunities for education and collaboration among contact lens faculty, CooperVision and its Specialty EyeCare unit sponsored the annual Educators’ Meeting at last month’s Global Specialty Lens Symposium. During the meeting, attendees representing schools and colleges across North America learned more about recent advancements in myopia and presbyopia management, and specialty contact lenses.
This year’s theme was Breakthrough Technologies, Breakthrough Opportunities, which explored several significant developments over the past year, including: the seven-year study results for CooperVision’s MiSight® 1 day* soft contact lenses for myopia control in age appropriate children; the toric and multifocal opportunity leveraging MyDay® toric and MyDay® multifocal, and the recent introduction of CooperVision Specialty EyeCare’s diverse orthokeratology portfolio including Paragon CRT®, iSEE®, GOV, and Orthotool as well as Optimized Pupil Optics for its Onefit™ MED and Onefit™ MED+ scleral lenses. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with Chief Medical Officer of SightGlass Vision Dr. Joe Rappon, who discussed the soon-to-come spectacle option for myopia management.
“Beyond the educational sessions, the Educators’ Meeting creates a space for peer-to-peer collaboration, enabling attendees to learn from one another,” said Steve Rosinski, OD, Senior Manager, Professional & Academic Affairs, CooperVision.
Justin Kwan, OD, Senior Manager, Myopia Management, Professional Affairs, CooperVision and Kelly Voltz, OD, Professional and Clinical Affairs, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare, co-moderated a breakout session on best practices in myopia management. During the session, attendees shared about how their Student Myopia Leadership Society member could support their myopia management efforts and rallying their primary care and pediatric faculty colleagues in driving toward this standard of care.
Dr. Rosinski and Justine Siergey, OD, Manager, Professional Affairs, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare, followed with a breakout session focused on the biggest challenges on the business side of contact lenses in an academic setting and what educators are implementing to overcome these challenges.
“With every passing year come new challenges and new lessons,” said Voltz. “Hearing directly from contact lens educators is valuable in determining how we can best meet their evolving needs, thereby strengthening our role as an industry partner.”
*Indications for use: MiSight® 1 day (omafilcon A) soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses for daily wear are indicated for the correction of myopic ametropia and for slowing the progression of myopia in children with non-diseased eyes, who at the initiation of treatment are 8-12 years of age and have a refraction of -0.75 to -4.00 diopters (spherical equivalent) with ≤ 0.75 diopters of astigmatism. The lens is to be discarded after each removal.
