ASCO Board of Directors Thrilled to Meet in Person in New Orleans
The ASCO Board of Directors held its spring meeting in person in New Orleans on March 9. It was wonderful to see many board members and staff in person for the first time in years and to be able to do it safely.
A sampling of topics discussed and actions taken during the Board Meeting were:
- Progress of ASCO’s draft Strategic Plan for FY23 – FY27
- Updates to the Optometry Gives Me Life campaign
- Considered and acted on recommendations from the OGML Funding Task Force
- Voted to become a “Friend of HCAPS” (The Health Care for Patient Safety)
- Signed onto an Amicus Brief prepared by Association of American Medical Colleges to submit comments to the Supreme Court on its review of a case about racially conscious admissions policies
- Approved the new Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Core Competencies for Optometric Education
- Reviewed ARBO’s call for comments on proposed COPE changes
Additional items covered were:
- Approved the 2022 Special Recognition Award winners (to be announced at the Annual Meeting in June)
- Approved FY23 budget assumptions as well as CY21 partnership endowment distributions
- The Board presented a resolution to Dr. Jenny Coyle, who is stepping down due from her position as Dean of SCCO-MBKU to assume her new appointment as the President of Pacific University
- Corporate Contributors Alcon, EssilorLuxottica and Johnson & Johnson Vision presented updates to the Board. This is a highlight of each Board Meeting and is a great way for sponsors to share news, products and services to the Board, as well as for the Board to show their appreciation to sponsors.
Future Meeting Plans
Plans are underway for the remaining 2022 Board of Directors meetings to also be held in person. The June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, in conjunction to Optometry’s Meeting in Chicago.
