Online Clinical Educators Forum Spring Program Announced
ASCO’s next Online Clinical Educators Forum (OCEF) is scheduled for Friday, June 3, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET and continues the communication theme and informal panel conversation style of the fall OCEF which focused on family communication.
The June session will examine strategies for effectively framing feedback for students and tools for teaching to various learning styles. It will also provide a forum for advice from preceptors known for their effective strategies in clinical teaching.
Details regarding a new ASCO Clinical Preceptors Training Resource, developed in 2021 by a subcommittee of the ASCO Clinical Affairs Committee (CAFC), also will be shared. Dr. Alicia Feis, Dean at AZCOPT and Chair of the ASCO CAFC will welcome participants; and session moderators/OCEF Co-chairs, Dr. Valerie Kattouf of ICO and Dr. Amy Moy of NECO, will guide participants through the program. Featured presentations will be 15 to 20 minutes in length, followed by 5-10 minutes of discussion time. The presentations are as follows:
- Communication with Struggling Students (setting expectations, listening to concerns, managing patient flow while student struggles, etc.) with Dr. Amy Steinway, SUNY
- Teaching Strategies for Struggling Students (knowledge base and varied learning styles) with Dr. Adam Blacker, AZCOPT
- Confidence Levels and Mindset of the Struggling Student with Dr. Katie Foreman, ICO and also featuring a student presenter from ICO
- Providing Effective Feedback to Struggling Students with Dr. Jennifer Reilly, NECO
The program is made possible through the generous support of the ASCO Clinic Directors/Administrators Special Interest Group. For more information, contact the CAFC Staff Liaison Ms. Carol Brubaker at cbrubaker@opted.org.
